Whitetail Bow season runs September 1–30. Our bow hunts are hunted from over 100 portable stands and portable ladder stands. We scout all summer long, locating stand locations for the opening of the season. As the season unfolds, we continue to scout every day to change stand locations as needed. We feel we give the bow hunter an excellent chance at P&Y class bucks. Over the past 16 years our bow hunters average around 60% success. The shooting opportunity at P&Y class deer is about 90%. In our 2005 bow season we took 35 hunters and harvested 17 bucks. There were 11 misses and 7 hit but not recovered. The season average was a little over 125 P&Y. The largest buck scored 142 P&Y. In the 2006 season 36 hunters harvested 17 bucks, with 13 misses and 10 hit and not recovered. The average was 127 P&Y. Three bucks taken were in the 140+ class. In the 2007 season 34 hunters harvested 22 bucks. There were also 5 misses and 9 hit, but not recovered. Actual hunter success was 65% with an 85% shot opportunity. Largest buck taken was a 155 P&Y, with 6 others over 140 P&Y. The average was 126 P&Y. The 2008 bow season was the best we have ever experienced. Our 36 hunters harvested 31 bucks for an incredible 86% success rate. In addition there were 10 misses and 8 crippled but not recovered. Shooting opportunity was 91%. The largest bucks taken were a 156, 152 P&Y. Another 6 were over 140 P&Y. The average for the bow season was 128 P&Y. 2009 was a frustrating bow season. With all of the scouting, we were seeing many good bucks, but with the very hot temperatures it always seemed that the big bucks were illusive. However, 33 hunters harvested 20 bucks, making this a 60% success rate. There were an additional 8 misses and 4 cripples. The largest buck taken was a 145 P&Y. We had a 123 P&Y average. Our rifle season takes place the month of November. Our hunts are guided either 2x1 or 1x1. We use a few different methods of hunting, including tree stands, closed-in box stands, blinds, still hunting, rattling, and spot and stalk. Over the years our hunters have averaged 80% to 100% success. During the 2000, 2001, and 2002 seasons, half the bucks taken have gone 140 BC gross or better. 17 of these bucks were 150 BC or better, including 5 160 BC bucks and 2 mid-170 BC bucks. The 2003 through 2006 seasons had an 85% success rate, averaging 130 to 140 BC. The largest of these bucks scored 161, 164, 166, and 186. The 2008 rifle season was another very successful year. Our hunters had a 92% success rate. The average buck taken was over 135 BC. The largest taken was 161 BC and 5 others were over 150 BC. These were some of the many good deer taken this season. The 2009 rifle season was very successful. However, there were many missed opportunities at some very good bucks. This could have really changed the overall success. 45 rifle hunters harvested 40 bucks for an 88% success rate. Our November average was a 135 BC, with the largest buck taken 160, with 5 others over 150 BC. Over the past sixteen years, our rifle hunters have averaged over 85% success. The average buck taken was 130+ BC. The average buck taken through the years overall is over 130+ BC. With the number of older age class bucks and other good bucks that were not harvested this past season, the next years should be outstanding. The license draw success in the whitetail area has been 100% the past five years on the Regular Draw tag. The fee for a license is $326.00. License fees and dates are subject to change according to Wyoming Game and Fish. We assist all our hunters with the license application process. Hunt Dates |
