• Elk – September 22-27

    008369-R1-07-17

We had 2 hunters hunt the General 129 area.  Both harvesting nice bulls.

We also took a bow hunter in limited quota area 116.  He got close a couple of times, almost taking a couple of really good bulls.

It just never worked out.  He is coming back the end of October and give it a try with a Rifle.

With the bucks that we are seeing and new bucks that we are starting to get located, the next two upcoming hunts, should be outstanding.

Between Realtree and Primos we had 6 hunters, hunting with cameras.

5 of the 6 harvested good bucks on film.  During the week, many outstanding bucks were seen and videoed.  Along with those and the other many buck we are seeing scouting, we should have another outstanding Whitetail Bow and Rifle season.

  • 2011 Antelope Bow Season

php1O7FjcAMOur Fall 2011 Season Kicked off with the Antelope Bow hunts.  August 15-29.

     phpjsQmqLAM

We had a fairly decent Antelope Bow season.  However, we did struggle as there was alot of water left over from our wet spring.  This made it a challenge for our guides to pick the right blind.

We ended up 22 Clients harvesting 16 bucks.  Many of these were Pope & Young caliber Pronghorn.  Making this a 75% kill rate.

The hunters were 18 for 22 shooting.  In addition to 14 misses.

We were also doing alot of scouting for the upcoming Deer and Elk bow seasons, starting September 1st.

  • Final Stats – Spring Turkey Season – 2011

We had a total of 72 clients.

62 of these hunters harvested at least 1 Trophy Tom, for an 86% kill rate.

Only 2 of these hunters did not have a shooting opportunity at a mature bird.

36 of these hunters chose to do the 2 bird hunt.  25 hunters harvested 2 birds.

13 hunters chose to do the 3 bird hunt.  8 of these were successful taking all 3 birds.

To sum this season up, this was definately one of the toughest Turkey seasons we have had.

We had an excellent April, harvesting Trophy Toms.  The weather was much more condusive to hunting Turkeys.

May came and the weather went down hill.  Most of the 20 days in May, we dealt with cold, wet and very windy weather.

Adding to the tough weather conditions, we also experienced 46 Total misses, throughout the season.

Because of the harsh weather conditions, the misses really effected the total outcome, a lot more, than it has in past seasons.

We really want to thank our guides Kenny Morga, Jimmy Walz, Mike Aberle and Mike Sneezby, for their extra efforts this season.  It is tough to get birds every day when the weather is going against you.

We also want to thank our excellent kitchen and lodge help – Helen Tenke, Mona Gill, Karysa Idler and Gari Gill.  Your extra efforts help us make our hunts run smooth.

Thank you also to all our clients who choose to hunt with Seven J.
